Yes, I'd imagine he is.
18v on stock is fine, beyond that you'd want something like http://eastcoastpowerup.com/ provides.
Keep your terrain in mind, when ordering too much $ in parts for stock, because if it's all hilly grass and mud, with some roughhousing 65 pounded(s), a torquey motor in high pinion with large diameter drive tires may not have the end result you desired.

But as you said, the nominal rating is only 12V for the Nichibo (15.5k RPM). It will probably wear out a bit faster at 18V than the Mabuchi would ... but it'll be faster. If you're running 16T pinions you probably won't be impressed with the speed of the Mabuchi at 18V since it is slower (per volt) than the stock motors.

The main concern with the Mabuchi ones is the high stall current & torque. If you're running an ESC you should have no problems, but if you're running just the stock switch/pedal, you may end up breaking gearboxes at 18V. The motor torque rating is ~1100mN*m for the Mabuchi @ 18V (130A current). The Nichibo at 18V would be ~800mN*m (100A current).

Running either one at 24V will likely cause immediate breakage problems w/o an ESC.
Hey there hammer. So. I’ve got an F150 Power wheels truck w/the 7R gearboxes. Just fried a 12v motor running 24v with no ESC controller. It was a used powerwheel. One of the gearboxes was fried too because the 1st gear ran out of grease & melted the plastic. I got some new gearboxes & Id like to put some 775 motors in it. My son runs it on flat short grass & asphalt or dirt 100% of the time. Which 24v motors would be a good fit & where can I get 16t pinions for the motors? I’m assuming they need to be 5mm 32p pinion gears. Was just going to use Bosch 5 pin relays to run the motors direct to battery thru breakers to take the motor load off the switches (gas pedal & shifter) as those seem to be the weak link contacts in the system. Any suggestions & links? Thanks in advance for your help.

I did the mltoys stage v 24v upgrade in my sons dune racer, and it won’t stop popping fuses. All connections are solid, can’t find any ground problems. PLEASE HELP!

I contacted ML Toys about the centering sleeve/collar and was told it was not necessary. While they and others may have ok luck with it I see it as a functional part of the assembly. It serves the purpose of centering the motor in the gearbox, reduces stress on the screw bosses and helps maintain gear backlash. I wouldn't want to install a motor without this.
