First Jeep Hurricane

Post by Krunchee »

I bought a hurricane on CL for $40 the guy had put a bigger battery (12 aH), spray painted poorly almost the whole thing black and the radio doesn't pick up any stations it just goes through to the end. I'm hoping to give this to my son for Xmas (he's also 2 but he's tall for his age and I can't get him out of his cousins PW Jeep without him crying haha).

Here's my todo list by christmas:

1.) repaint it I don't think I'll have to strip it down completely but most it.

2.) Add headlights and tail lights (I'm going with the harbor freight headlights hack from here already got them working just need to install them)

3.) Replace/repair parts

Rear tires have holes in them. I'm thinking of using http://www.harborfreight.com/self-adhes ... 98856.html with my own expoxy or glue.

Steering wheel - It got loose and the kid kinda wrecked the inside trying to get it back on.

Radio - I think the antenna was cut it's only about 3 inches long. Can someone tell me how long theirs are?

I'll post pics later today I've already started to tear down the steering wheel and radio.

I can't get the steering wheel pushed down far enough to put the pin in either.

I'm thinking either paint the windshield or remove it all together

the windshield is sandwiched in the frame...the antenna for the radio might still be in the dash...there is two screws to remove the dash from the rest..they are right by the mirrors...if you remove them then pull up on the dash it should come off..just do it slow as the wire for the battery meter is on the left side of the dash..the antenna runs across the bottom of the dash..it looks like what happened to one of mine before I knew how to take them out...if yours is still there just solider it back together..

So I've got it all torn apart. My father in law is going to paint the green body white and the seats red. I chromed the engines and painted the screens black.
I'll post pics tomorrow. I got the headlights rewired and working. tail lights are almost done just need to cutout the opening for them. As for the radio I didn't find any additional wire inside I tried using some wire I had on hand and no change it just goes from beginning and never stops till the end.

Can anyone tell me how long it should be from the outside of the radio?

My wife and I bounced around some paint schemes and decided we'd have my father in law paint it as he has a shop for it and it's not going to break 50 F outside for quite sometime. He had a bunch of white and black so we went with that I'm still in the process of putting it back together so here is the rear end.
