FAQ- Simple 18volt conversion for dual 6volt systems

This conversion is specificly for dual 6volt (12volt) systems that utilize a single wire plug for the high speed lockout. The plug lockout system was used on most dual 6volt Power Wheels with push button shifting.

By simply unplugging the lockout plug, you now have a perfect location to connect another 6 volt battery. This will provide 18 volts in high and 6 volts in low.

Here is a diagram that should help explain it. (wire colors may vary)

It is very important that you follow the diagram exactly since the connections are polarity sensitive.

Another note: Some older models with #3 gearboxes had plastic pinions. Plastic pinions will not hold up at 18volts. They should be switched to metal ones -OR- refer to "#3 plastic pinion fix" here: viewtopic.php?f=41&t=607

Can I still do this trick with the dual 6volt to 12volt wire harness mod?

No.....once the harness is "flipped" to use a single 12 volt, you can add the extra six volt inline at the main battery connector.
