Ohio State Buckeyes Jeeps

Post by landon »

Well, I'm finally getting around to posting this project. Since it's snowing here in NE Ohio... my mushroom hunting is put on hold, so time to share what I've been up to!
Last fall, I got a free 2-seat jeep (Restage) and thought about making it an easy flip.
Image

Not long after that, I picked up another Firerock:
Image

Then I saw Gwinny's awesome Boise State Jeep and thought... hey, great idea!
viewtopic.php?f=19&t=5519

Mocked up a design in Photoslop:
Image

And got to work:

Disassembled and pressure washed

Image
sanded

undercarriage and white basecoat

stripes and some details

I'm not super happy with the way my lines came out. I needed to use a higher quality tape. Live and learn...

So now after some light touch-ups, I'll be laying a clearcoat, applying decals, more clearcoating, assembling, then even more clearcoating... lol
Then I'll be hoping like hell someone actually buys these things for more than I'll have in 'em!!

Hey man, I think these look great!

Wait... we can sell these things??? LOL

The one project that I have been working on so far was just for my son and he is bugging me so much to "just get it going" that I haven't been able to spend the amount of time on it that I wish I could have. It certainly looks much rougher than yours. But maybe the next one he won't be bugging me about it because he'll already have one to ride on while I am working. So I can spend more time on details.

Looks good!

My secret on the lines is frog tape. It's about $6 a roll, but worth every penny. I get perfect lines and it never pulls at my paint under.

Can't wait to see these done! You will sell them! I have to control fights between people trying to get mine. Lol

Finally got a few hours this past weekend to work on these. Got the lines cleaned up, all the paint screw-ups fixed, and applied (most of) the decals. They're really taking shape...
To-Do: Last few decals, acrylic mirrors, flame-treat the tires, clear coat, re-assemble, wet sand, more clear coat...
Lesson for next time: a simpler design takes less time to complete!!

I had to get a little creative to deal with the big bump on the Firerock's hood...

I'm looking forward to getting these done so I can start my Harleys!!

Looks Good. I just picked up my first PW Jeep and will need to paint it once I get it running. I'm checking out paint ideas. DW went to a different school but I like the school theme.

Thanks for the compliments, everybody. I got them both clearcoated and the Restage assembled this weekend. Finally!! One is totally done! Well, except for the acrylic mirrors and a 30A fuse  I stuck a 26AH battery under the seat and ran the stock battery plugs back up under the hood for easy charging/access.
What do you think? I'll put more pics up when I get 'em both done and can get them outside in the sunlight.

Looking forward to assembling the Firerock Wednesday night and sticking a fork in both of these! lol...

I finally finished these things... Hopefully someone buys 'em!
Other than CL, where should I advertise them?
Now, on to the next project, a metallic red F-150.

Update - Single seater (Firerock) sold on eBay last week for $200!
The guy is driving up from Alabama (to northeast Ohio) to pick it up this weekend. Man, I hope he's happy with it! That's a long way to go for a MPW...

I've seen both of these on Craiglist. I'm over in Akron. Do you live in Youngstown? If so, are you the one who grabbed the free Harley that was put up on CL yesterday before I could get to it?? Glad they are selling!

nah, I'm in Akron, too. I posted those Jeeps on the Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, and Columbus CLs. The 2 seater sold really quickly, the Firerock took a while. $600 for both is pretty good, I think!
No, wasn't me that picked up the free Harley. I was planning on driving there in the morning, if it was still posted, though!
I just got back from Cuy Falls, picking up a free Ninja... my second free Ninja from the Falls this summer! woot! Gonna be picking up 2 Harleys from Medina this weekend for $45, too :D

How did you find the ninja? I saw one for $40 yesterday. I picked up two Harleys from Massillon for $25 but one was in rough shape

This Ninja was a craigslist curb alert post. Last one was a dumb luck drive-by.
This weekend's Harleys are going to be parts rides... I need some 21t GBs to play with :D

That is lucky. I'd like to find a quad to fix up. I combined the two Harleys I picked up into one and am in the process of painting it and getting it up for sale. The other is just for the gearboxes which should be fun

Hey Landon, just curious about what "flame treatment" on the tires is?
Is that for the little burrs from wear?

@suburbancharlie77, yes. basically the same thing that a heat gun would do. I was using a propane torch, that seemed to only get the surface plastic hot enough to re-glaze and not warp the whole tire. YMMV!
