Puple Jeep turned Bronco Jeep **UPDATED Completed 11/10

Post by gwinnythepooh »

So we decided the jammin jeep I got for free wasn't going to cut it for my daughter, just not quite big enough to invest the time in doing pink camo jeep.

So... WE decided to paint it in our Boise State Bronco theme so that I can get the most money out of it. So far it looks amazing, but we haven't reached the "body yet" which has some body work to be done.

Here is the before photo

All of the lime green parts got painted Orange, and the seat will be orange with a White inset. The body Blue. ;)

Dash Board- Custom Decals- My decal shop couldn't reproduce Jeep decals because they were too faded, so we just printed another set of the Thundercat gauges, and I think it turned out well.

My sticker on the hood melted, BOO- it was so cool, so had to have another one made. But we managed to save the hood paint job.

Its finally Done!!! Yaya! It turned out UH-Mazing. Its going to be so hard to part with it.

Heres a run down of what I had to do: Got the jeep for free

1-Replace BOTH axles
2- New Front Tires (thanks sea-stork)
3- New Hood (thanks hootie)
4- New Battery
5- Cleaned all switches & gearboxes
6- Extensive body work -Heath gun and bondo
7-New custom paint and decals (process of DefesiveWound) with addition of Adhesion Promoter. WOrks flawlessly for me.

What paint are you using? I am also doing a few paint jobs, but I'm always afraid of marking it up, even after clear coat.

I use Defensive Wounds method from FAQ for the most part... But in a nutshell I use adhesion promoter 2 coats, then krylon fusion for plastics in gloss about 5 coats, then decals then 4-5 coats rustoleum clear acrylic. All coats 10 min apart. Then we bring everything inside to heat for several days... I've have no issues at all and everything looks fantastic.
Oh but I sand/heat gun prep... And I wet sand after day 4 cure and then lay down final clear, usually just on body and large pieces...

Gwinny,

How are you doing the two-tone paint job on the seats? You must be doing a combination of taping plus hand painted touch ups? I just can't imagine you getting the tape to lay down perfectly in those seat depressions. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.
In Italy AND in our house WITH our household goods shipment. Yea!

Paint whole seat white, use frog tape over center white, and razor blade to trim out. Perfect lines. Very little if any touch up...
