Santa #3/8- WSU Harley

Post by gwinnythepooh »

I suck at before pics, and I don't know why.
Classic Red Harley. Need to do harness flip... and change tires.

and I paid $20 for it because something was wrong with it. "Ya Think"

Here is the body in primer. I can't believe I keep forgetting to take pics. This has zero sun, wow what a difference it is sanding on good plastic! Its almost worth the extra $!

Original was cracked so this was a spare- actually the one I did the Heat Gun thread on...

Haha thanks.
This one might kill me. I've never done decals "after the fact" but the mall is 30 minutes away and theyre die cut silver so decided I wouldn't clear over. But its bugging me to not know what its going to look like.

Body is almost ready for clear.

I WISH I could get my finish as smooth as yours... alas, it's seems never to be!
Did you have fun taping the center rise on the tank? big p.i.t.a. if you ask me!

Actually that wasn't the hard part- it was getting the line on the front fender straight... I don't know if these aren't level, or what...

My secret is all in the clearing process...

This also makes me think...Do you use the 2X primer? I do and it really does help smooth the surface and fill in imperfections!

Congrats on the sale and that Harley sure looked good; I'm not surprised it sold that fast for $225; THAT'S PRETTY CHEAP for the work you put in it.

I still made a good profit- I had $20 in to buy originally,$20 for battery & $15 for paint $21 for decals. So still profited $150.

I did. My color coats looked great, smooth, shiny, and even. I'm pretty sure My mistake was putting too thick a layer of clear over the first two thin coats that weren't quite dry enough. Oh well... one day I'll get it right!

Great job on this bike, btw. It's hard to guess what ppl are going to be willing to pay for one of these... When they sell in minutes it totally makes you wish you asked more, but then if you ask too much off the bat, they sit and sit. I like the custom painted power wheels badges, nice touch. Thought about doing that on my browns rides, but it looked like a pain. Lol!
How come the rear wheel sliding-track things aren't seated in the frame?

If you will get a 7/16" die in fine thread and start threading one side of the rear axle so you can use a lock nut, you wont have to wait on the PNB to get home.

ive been cutting my own axles from 7/16 stock and threading them or using bearing lock collars :D

Exactly. When you dont have a reliable PNB, this is what you have to do.

I'm afraid to ask what pnb means

So what's a die? And how do I use it? I hate push nuts

A "die" will cut threads on the axle so you can use a locknut on it instead of push nuts😉

Go to your local NAPA and get you one. Fine thread also and make sure you get lock nuts.
A PNB is the person that helps you with push nuts. Someone named that person a Push Nut B#@^% in the past. May have been Hootie. lol
