Cleveland Browns Harley Davidsons

Post by landon »

Since I had so much fun designing and making the Ohio State Jeeps, I thought it would be cool to do something similar to the two Harley Davidsons I've been sitting on for a while. I didn't want this project to take a year, so I took a few days off of work and banged it out. I had disassembled and sanded both HDs on and off the last two weeks, and this week I was a painting fool. I didn't really change anything, all wiring and mechanics are stock. They both have new drive wheels, one has new front and rear wheels, too. All the decals were made by me, and I have to give a shout-out to H-Bomb and SAHDman for helping me out with some of the missing trim pieces.

Here are the before shots... pretty standard non-turbo Harleys.

This was the nicer of the two... definitely newer!

Here's a carnage shot:

Here they are, primered up and getting their stripes:

Here are the first shots of one completed and re-assembled. Though I love the way the design and the overall look turned out, I'm very disappointed in the finish. I used Rustoleum 2x clear over Rustoleum 2x color and I got some pretty persistent micro-webbing (best way I can describe it). I didn't think that I waited too long between color and clear, but maybe that was the problem. w/e it's not as shiny as I'd like it. I'm not wet sanding these parts again (I did several times in the painting process), so they're going to stay as-is. Call me lazy...

Hopefully, I'll be able to offload these in the next week or two and get some Christmas cash!
So, what do you think?

I'll update with some better photos soon.

I haven't used the rustoleum 2x yet. Does it lay on a lot thicker than the other clears you have used? I used the standard rustoleum clear the last time I painted and I really liked it. Also what are you selling them for (I could wait for the CL ad I guess haha)? I think they turned out really good.

Cool!

Here's the deal with 2x. You do NOT have 24 hours, you have like 5-6. It will crinkle. I have to litterally do a paint job in one shot. No waiting. Also make sure you put on a light coat of clear. If you spray the first coat too heavy it will web. I have had "some" luck getting that webbing out by slightly heat gunning it as soon as I see it.

I am getting ready to do a Washington State University Harley next week.

That's what I do. I spray clear about 30 minutes after final color, light, med, wait 45 min, wet sand 1200 grit, med-heav coat goes on like glass.

Thanks for the compliments, guys!
I wait so long after the final color before I clear. It was probably around 90 minutes. Oh well, one day I'll get it perfect...
I think I'm going to ask $250 each, $400 for the pair. Keep your fingers crossed :)

Not a nibble from CL posts, so far. I'll give it a couple weeks, then drive them up to a pre-game tailgate event to see if I can offload 'em.

First off, those are freakin sweet man! Great paint job, looks really nice. GO BROWNS!

Second, CL up here is funny. For two weeks straight I didn't get a call on my Harley. I started to get bummed out, then I get a call. I had to wait a week for the customer to come through, but in that week I got about 5 more calls. So around week two and a half, that's when I got all my calls. Weds. and Thursday are good days to post them also, payday for most people is on Fridays or Thursday nights, got to reel them in on an impulse buy, lol.

TYVM!
and yeah, CL is always very hit or miss. I got impatient and put one on feeBay this past weekend. I figured with the first of the month coming up, the start of holiday shopping, yadda yadda... they should move.
My fingers remain crossed!
